Fabric fish

These fish are taken from a black pen sketch which I have printed onto fabric then machine embroidered and stuffed!

Only 1 week now till Bradford Open Studios - I've got official brochures and posters and balloons! Studio has been reorganised and tidied so I just need some nice weather and lots of lovely visitors.

Bradford Open Studios

Marketing day today - printed some flyers this morning for the Open Studios and began leaving some in shops - very exciting! Also took the last three embroideries to the framers - hope to be able to pick them all up next Saturday and have a bumper hanging day!

Bradford Open for Art

It's a busy time in the studio - I am getting ready to take part in the Open Studios as part of Bradford Open for Art which is being held over the Bank holiday weekend 2nd to the 5th of June. Am eagerly awaiting some pieces of work being returned from the framers and have had some greetings cards printed from my embroideries.

Have been having a sort out in the studio in preparation for the Open Studios and have pulled out a few of my sketchbook pages to sit alongside the embroideries so visitors can see the initial sketches and thoughts and then the final piece. I always love looking at people's sketchbooks so hope that this will add something to any visitors I might get on the Open Studios weekend. I am getting very excited - only 2 weeks to go - hope to have lots of visitors so book the dates down in your diaries!!

Derwent Inktense sticks

Derwent Inktense sticks are my new plaything and I love them! They are really smooth to use and give a really crisp intense colour and are fab for using as a base for my embroideries. This is a picture of Lorraine, one of our older sheep. She is one of our favourites and always comes over for an ear scratch and a sneaky carrot. I have done a few different drawings of her - this is the first I have got round to embroidering. Hopefully I can get the others worked up soon as I would like one of these to be my entry for Another Spot on the Wall at The Station in Richmond which I have been accepted for - hugely excited!!

Busy week

Been a very busy week at Bumble Designs Studio. Had some bunting to make for a very special little girl - my niece! And it's Granny's birthday tomorrow so have been busy making a picnic blanket for her garden. It's all pink and girlie and made with lots of love - hope she likes it!

I gave a friend a free-motion machine embroidery lesson earlier in the week. It was good fun and I think she enjoyed it. I am hoping she will send me some photos of the embroidery she has been practising.

I finally got my piece of work in the hands of Papergirl Leeds and was very excited when I saw a photo of the exhibition and spotted my work on it! The exhibition looks fantastic.

The Sketchbook Project has started its tour with my little sketchbook touring along - am still waiting notification of its digitalisation and am really looking forward to seeing it when that happens.

And finally I have just received confirmation that I have a place reserved in the Another Spot on the Wall exhibition at The Station, Richmond over the summer. I am really excited about this and am working a new piced up to take along. Will post some pics when I get a bit nearer finishing it.

Papergirl Leeds

This is my entry for the Papergirl Leeds event - artists send in a piece of their work which is exhibited at High Court, The Calls in Leeds from 24 - 28 April. Exhibits are then rolled up and given out to random members of the public. Find out more at http://papergirlleeds.tumblr.com/

I have based my piece on one of the floor tiles from The County Arcade in Leeds - brown paper, acrylic paint and stitch.

Something old, something new ...

Busy day in the studio this morning - we have been asked to make a memory quilt out of lots of embroidered tablecloths and doilies . We have got the basic layout sorted and have got everything pinned together ready for stitching. Hopefully next week we will be able to show you a picture of it all coming together. I have posted some photos of some of the original embroideries -it's great to create something new out of salvaged doilies and vintage tablecloths.

Below is a picture of a wedding cushion I made a couple of weeks ago - the fabrics and lace are from remnants from the brides dress. The wedding was last weekend - congratulations!
